Thirty working screens, built overnight, then smashed with a longsword
A practical set of thirty-plus live screens, videogame levels built by artists across several time zones, and a director teaching his artist a medieval fencing guard so she could break them properly.
Play itYouTubeAndy Mihov built a physical set with more than thirty working screens for Au/Ra's "CRACK!", assembled overnight, with the videogame "levels" shown on them pre-built by artists working across different time zones.
The detail that makes it, from Mihov:
At one point in the video Au/Ra has to smash the screens (with the evil Entity on them) using her sword. I had to quickly teach her a technique from longsword fencing called Zornhut (Wrath Guard).
There is a version of this video made entirely in After Effects that would look almost the same and cost a fraction. It would also not have required anyone to learn Wrath Guard, and you would be able to tell.
